Amelia's Will - a Catalonian folk song arranged by Miguel Llobet (1878 - 1938) This song carries a sad and unusual story...

The lyrics of this song tell the story of a young girl who has found out that her husband has been unfaithful - with her own mother! Ouch. There are several endings to the story in which she either commits suicide, is poisoned by her mother or dies in sorrow and painful agony. To her, their treachery is worse than death. Her will (testament) is written on her deathbed with the final instructions allowing the two to be together.

Llobet skillfully captures the sense of sorrow in his guitar arrangement. Llobet was one of Tarrega's most distinguished pupils. This piece is the first of many arrangements of Catalonian folksongs often referred to as Llobet's "Canciones Populares Catalanas".
